Honestly and sincerely I found this article to be comical. I am not nor trying to be discriminatory, but I must say I agree and fully support their choice of funding a whites only scholarship. I am a hispanic myself and I really felt no threat nor discrimination in the actions by the Republican National Committee. In fact, I deemed their dealings to be nothing more than pure "parody". There are numerous scholarships available for minority groups, for guys above six feet, and people with blue eyes. Some of the qualifications for these scholarships do tend to get outrageous at times, but no one intervenes with them. So why interfere with the qualifications that a local college group decides to create? Taking a second look and analyzing what is right before our eyes should plainly display that the "selective" ones are already out there. There already exists oragnizations that offers scholarships to Hispanics and African Americans. Therefore, what's so unethical about sponsoring a scholarship that pertains to white America.
Although I fully support the path this organization has taken, I do disagree with some of their previous actions as expressed in the article. I chasten them, the College Republicans, for voicing their biased views about homosexuals and about the celebration of Kwanzaa. The discrimination that they expressed politically in articles does not deserve to be championed. I strongly believe in the U.S. Constitution and the rights it grants Americans. However, the ideals that were conveyed by this group are not protected by the freedom of speech. When there is intended harm or the defamation of a person, or persons, as the group carried out in their newsletter about homosexuals, they eradicated the possibility of protection by the First Amendment in the U.S. Constitution.
As a result, I would defend the group on the actions they have taken in creating a scholarship that pertains only to white Americans. I would even praise them for building up the courage to start such controversy. However, this group's history, to alleged discrimination of other organizations in their school, makes me second guess whether to take their side on the intentions sought in the "scholarship for whites only".
